Our Story

It started with an empty room and a single bad pendant light.

When we bought our first home, we did what every excited new homeowner does — we tore it apart and started rebuilding. Walls came down. Floors went in. And then we hit the part nobody warns you about: the lighting.

We spent weekends trawling showrooms and late nights scrolling endless tabs, and we kept landing in the same frustrating place. The pieces we actually loved carried five-figure price tags and designer markups that made our eyes water. Everything else felt cheap, mass-produced, or soulless — the kind of fixtures that fill a room without ever bringing it to life.

That's when it hit us. There was a massive gap in the market for genuinely beautiful, beautifully-made lighting sold directly to the people who'd live with it every day. No middlemen. No 6x markups. No compromise.

So we set out to build it ourselves.

What followed was years of slightly unhinged travel — workshops tucked down side streets in northern Italy, family-run foundries we found through a friend of a friend, ceramicists in Portugal, glassblowers whose techniques have been passed down for generations. We drank a lot of strong coffee. We learned a lot of words for "brass." Slowly, piece by piece, handshake by handshake, we built relationships with the artisans, designers, and manufacturers we believed were quietly making the best lighting in the world.

Lifetide is what we named it — because light moves through a home the way tides move through a day. Morning brightness, golden hour warmth, the soft glow that pulls everyone toward the kitchen at night. Lighting isn't decoration. It's the rhythm your life is lived in.

Today, we work directly with those same makers to bring their work to homes around the world — without the showroom markup, without the gatekeeping, and without ever cutting a corner on the things that matter. Every piece we sell is one we'd put in our own home. Most of them already are.
